TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- These Terms and Conditions (T&C) are the complete and exclusive statements of understanding between Code Academy Uganda (CAU) & the Participants/Users in the National Scratch Competition (NSC) 2021. All representation or other communication between CAU & the Participants amounts to acceptance of these terms & conditions.
- CAU shall provide an online platform for enrolling in the competition to the Users/Participants. All registration and payment procedures shall be in accordance with the terms and conditions herein, as may be amended from time to time and/or any other communication as shared by CAU from time to time.
- Important Dates:
A. Registration for the competition will be open by 8th October 2021 and NSC Round 1 will begin on 1st November 2021 and project and quiz submission will end on 21st November 2021. All will happen virtually.
B. The Grand Finale, a physical event, will include project presentation and a live quiz before the Jury, results announcement, and the award ceremony, will be on 18th December 2021. - By participating in the Competition, a Participant unconditionally accepts and agrees to be bound by all these terms and conditions as stated herein.
- CAU shall not be responsible for any entering the Competition unlawfully or otherwise in breach of any applicable laws.
- CAU reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to terminate or disqualify any Participant in the Competition or reclaim the prize at any time if it is CAU’s opinion that there has been a breach of any of the Terms by such a Participant (whether discovered during or after the end of the Competition).
- All the contents and material of the Competition is an Intellectual Property of CAU and the User/Participant shall have no right over the same.
- Any commercial use of the Competition is strictly prohibited and shall be punishable under applicable laws.
- There are 3 different age groups in which Participants should lie:
• Junior Category, 7 to 10 years
• Senior Category, 11 to 14 years
• Mature Category, 15 to 19 years
Note that you will be competing against participants only in your age group. - Team Registration Process (Registrations will be done by Individual Users at https://bit.ly/nsc2021registration )
A. Users will sign up with personal details such as Name, Email Id, Contact Number, School Details, or any other details as may be required.
B. Post successful registration, the User/Participant will be sent payment details via email or directed to the payment page where payment can be made using debit/credit card, mobile money or bank transfer etc.
C. Once the payment has been realized by CAU, access to the learning portal shall be granted to the Participant.
D. Access to the Competition through the Account to the Participant shall be granted till 18th December 2021.
E. The registration Fee for each Participant for the entire Program shall be Ug Shs. 120,000/= (35 USD). - It is mandatory to submit the following things to participate in the NSC. Each of them will be used to assess every participant for the next round (Grand Finale). Any missing item means automatic disqualification for the next round.
A. PowerPoint Presentation Slides: You have to write a description of your project with the following titles for the slides.
1. Name, School, Age, Category
2. Theme
3. Why that Theme
4. Suggested Solution
5. Project Steps
6. Project Test (Include a screenshot of your Code and place it here)
B. Project File: You have to make a project in Scratch, or PictoBlox only if your theme is ‘Think Artificial Intelligence’, and submit it on the portal. Your project can be anything from a story, a game, or an animation. It is the idea and the innovativeness that counts!
C. Project Video: You also have to make a 3-7 minutes video introducing yourself and explaining your project and then share its YouTube link and or upload your video.
D. Quiz: You have to submit the provided quiz for Round 1. - You can submit only one project per entry. You can edit, update, or change your project as many times as you want before the deadline. You can only choose one theme for your project.
- You will be given marks out of 100. The breakdown of everything that you have to submit is as follows:
A. PowerPoint Presentation Slides [15 marks]
B. Project File [35 marks] – The score breakdown is as follows:
i. Concept: 15 marks
ii. Working: 15 marks
iii. Aesthetics: 5 marks
C. Project Video [20 marks] – The score breakdown is as follows:
i. Introduction: 5 marks
ii. Project explanation: 15 marks
iii. Presentation skills: 10 marks
D. Quiz [15 marks]
E. Public Vote [15 marks] - The outcome of the Competition shall be final and binding any challenge to the same shall be not entertained.

B. 2nd Runner-Up (1 in each age group):
i. Bronze medal
ii. Certificate
iii. Official NSC 2021 T-shirt
16. CAU reserves the right to amend/replace the Prize(s) to be distributed to the Winners. No objection in this regard shall be entertained.
17. CAU reserves the right to postpone the Competition or withdraw or amend the terms and conditions of the Competition as it may deem necessary or fit.
18. The prizes for the Competition will be given to the winner as set out in the Terms. The winner must accept his/her prize in that form. Prizes are non-negotiable, non-transferable, non-refundable, and not exchangeable for cash, credit or kind, either in part or in full except at the sole and absolute discretion of the CAU.
19. CAU reserves the right in its sole and absolute discretion to deal with any unclaimed prizes in any manner.
20. CAU shall not be liable in any way for any failure or breach by any party in connection with the Competition, prize, or prizes and accepts no responsibility for any loss suffered by a participant arising from the Competition, prize, or prizes.
21. Any winner of the Competition may, at no cost to CAU, be requested to participate in public relations events tied to the campaign to generate press coverage of the Competition. This may include, but not limited to, quotes given for inclusion in press releases, press conferences, interviews, etc.
22. By participating in the Competition, the Participant allows:
A. the usage of their name, quotes and/or likeness, without compensation, for CAU promotional and marketing purposes; and
B. to use their answers to the Competition questions, without compensation, for CAU’s promotional and marketing purposes.
23. Any attempt by a Participant to deliberately damage or undermine the legitimate operation of the Competition is a violation of Criminal and Civil Laws and should such an attempt be made, CAU reserves its right to seek damages from any such Participant to the fullest extent as permitted by law.
24. Any content created by any Participant during the Program or the Competition shall be the sole proprietary of CAU. The Participant hereby agrees to assist in the transfer of all/any right that accrues to the participant due to the creation of the content under the applicable law. Such transfer shall be without any compensation and/or future royalties (if any).
25. All entries will be treated as the property of CAU only and can be used by CAU (or any third party authorized by CAU in this regard) for any promotional and/or commercial activity & the participants/winners waive all rights of whatsoever nature in the said entries in favor of CAU by participating in the Competition.
26. Winners may be required by CAU to participate in a photo, video, and/or film session and acknowledge that CAU has the absolute and exclusive right to use such photos, videos, and/or films in any medium and in any reasonable manner it may deem fit for publicity without any consideration or payment of similar nature to such participants/winners.
27. CAU in its absolute discretion may publicize, broadcast, or otherwise disclose a participant’s/winner’s name, character, likeness, statements, or any recording of their voice in advertising or promotional activities concerning this Competition, or generally. CAU may promote or advertise that a winner has won the Competition.
28. CAU, and/or its representatives shall not be liable to any person or entity for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages, including loss of profits, incurred by the winner or any third party, whether in connection with this Competition or for breach of any warranty or in tort.
29. The Participant agrees to indemnify CAU, its agents, employees, representatives, associates, affiliates, parent and subsidiary companies against any and all claim, losses, costs, damages, liability, and expenses arising out of the Participant’s breach of any of the T&C or arising out of or in connection with their entries to the Competition.
30. The Participant, by entering the Competition, expressly releases CAU from any claim, action, or demand arising out of or in connection with the Competition or their prize, if any.
31. CAU shall not assume any responsibility for incorrect or inaccurate capture of any Participant’s information. This will include but not limited to technical malfunctions, human or technical error, seeding or printing errors, lost or delayed or garbled data or transmissions, omission, interruption, deletion, defect or failures of any telephone or computer line or network, computer equipment, software or any combination thereof.
32. The laws of Uganda shall govern these T&C.
33. CAU shall not be responsible for any loss or damage suffered by the participants while participating in the Competition.
34. Failure by CAU to enforce any of these Terms and Conditions in any instance(s) shall not give rise to any claim by any person.
35. This Competition is being created as a promotional activity for CAU and all goodwill, copyright, moral rights or other intellectual rights associated thereto shall vest exclusively with CAU.
36. The Competition is valid subject to the winner complying with all T&C and/or formalities as required by CAU. Any failure on the part of the Participant to comply with any specified term, condition, and/or formality shall render the Participant liable for disqualification at the sole discretion of CAU.
37. Payments: The Platform is a paid service and the payments made by the Participant shall be according to the plans opted by the participant through the Platform. CAU shall not be liable for any unauthorized use, fraud, payment refunds, lost amount etc. in the transaction.
38. User Communication: Participants hereby explicitly consent to receive communication from CAU or representative by email, telephone, WhatsApp, or text message for the purposes of providing alerts and information about our services.
39. User Content: The Participant/User agrees not to encourage or assist or engage others as well as himself/herself in transmitting, hosting, displaying, uploading, modifying, publishing transmitting, updating or sharing any information that belongs to another person and to which the user does not have any right to. CAU shall in no way be held responsible for examining or evaluating User Content, nor does it assume any responsibility or liability for the User Content. CAU does not endorse or control the User Content transmitted or posted on the Site by the User and therefore, accuracy, integrity, or quality of User Content is not guaranteed by CAU. User/Participant understands that by using the Site, he/she may be exposed to User Content that is offensive, indecent, or objectionable to him/her. Under no circumstances will CAU be liable in any way for any User Content, including without limitation, for any errors or omissions in any User Content, or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred by him/her as a result of the use of any User Content transmitted, uploaded, posted, emailed or otherwise made available via the Site. Users hereby waive all rights to any claims against CAU for any alleged or actual infringements of any proprietary rights, rights of privacy and publicity, moral rights, and rights of attribution in connection with User Content.
40. Account: User/Participant will be responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of his/her account, password, and restricting access to his/her computer, and he/she hereby accepts responsibility for all activities that occur under his/her account and password. Participants acknowledge that the information he/she provides, in any manner whatsoever, is not confidential or proprietary and does not infringe any rights of any third party.
If a User is accessing, browsing, and using the Site on someone else’s behalf; he/she represents that he/she has the authority to bind that person to all the terms and conditions herein. In the event that the person refuses to be bound as the principal to the Terms of Use, he/she agrees to accept liability for any harm caused by any wrongful use of the Site resulting from such access or use of the Site.
If a User knows or has reasons to believe that the security of his/her account has been breached, he/she should contact CAU immediately. If CAU finds a breach or suspects a breach of the security of a User’s /Participant’s account, CAU may require the User to change the password, or suspend the account without any liability to CAU.
CAU reserves the right to refuse service and/or terminate accounts without prior notice if these Terms of Use are violated. A User/Participant is solely responsible for all content that he/she uploads, posts, emails, or otherwise transmits via the Site. The information provided to CAU shall be maintained by CAU in accordance with CAU’s Privacy Policy.
41. CAU reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to amend or vary any of these Terms & Conditions at any time without prior notice or intimation.
42. By enrolling in the Program and/or participating in the Competition, the Participant acknowledges and agrees to abide by the Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy, and other policies as may be amended from time to time
